The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) recently selected Nathan Brown to be the new resident inspector for the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant.
Brown joined the NRC in 2019 as a project engineer, an NRC release states.
Prior to being the resident inspector at the Callaway Plant, he was the resident inspector at Arkansas Nuclear One in Russellville, Arkansas.
Brown also served nine years in the Navy's nuclear power program.
He received his bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University.
As resident inspector at the Callaway Plant, Brown will "serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conduct regular inspections, monitor plant operations and significant work projects, and interact with plant workers and the public," a release states.
"Nathan's training and commitment to safety will help the NRC in its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping assure that Callaway continues to meet the high standards set by the agency," NRC Region IV acting administrator Rob Lewis said in a release.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors.
Scott Schwind was selected as the new senior resident inspector for the Callaway Plant in Feb. An NRC staffer temporarily served alongside Schwind until Brown was selected, according to previous Fulton Sun reporting.
