The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission has named Scott Schwind as the new senior resident inspector at the Callaway Plant.
All U.S. commercial nuclear plants have at least two U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) resident inspectors, according to an NRC news release. At the Callaway Plant, an NRC staffer will temporarily work alongside Schwind until another inspector is selected.
NRC inspectors conduct inspections and monitor work projects at nuclear plants, according to the release, interacting with plant workers and the public.
Schwind first joined the NRC as a resident inspector in 1997. He served as a resident inspector at the Indian Point 2 Power Plant in Buchanan, New York, and Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plants in Glen Rose Texas, and as a senior resident inspector at the Cooper Nuclear Power Plant in Brownville, Nebraska.
He left the NRC in 2007 and returned in 2021. He's been a resident inspector at the Callaway plant since April 2022.
"Scott's experience as a resident inspector at two other plants, combined with his technical knowledge, and his dedication to our safety and security mission will enable him to oversee the continued safe operation of the Callaway nuclear plant. He is an excellent choice to lead our inspections at Callaway," said NRC Region IV Acting Administrator Rob Lewis in the release.
