Missouri men's basketball adds 3-point shooter

COLUMBIA -- The Missouri Tiger men’s basketball team has added a potent shooter through the transfer portal.

Jacob Crews, a 6-foot-8 wing, comes to the Tigers after converting 41.4 percent of his 3-pointers at UT Martin last season. He finished with averages of 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season for the Skyhawks.

“Jacob has great size for his position with an elite combination of shooting, toughness and rebounding,” Missouri coach Dennis Gates said in a release by the athletic department. “He has an outstanding mindset and is somebody who is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the nation’s top conference. He attracted a lot of interest from several power-conference schools but we were able to form a great connection with him and his family and know that he will be a perfect fit and teammate within our program.”

Crews, ranked as high as the No. 28 player in the transfer portal, earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors this season.

Crews is one of two players in the country -- along with Baylor Scheierman of Creighton -- to finish with more than 600 points, 250 rebounds and 85 made 3-pointers in the 2023-24 season.

As a freshman at Daytona State, Crews earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors after averaging 19.9 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Crews, a native of Hilliard, Fla., is the first player signed by Missouri in the spring transfer portal. He will join five freshmen on campus starting this fall.
