SC baseball couldn’t capitalize on opportunities, losing at Class 4 No. 10 Blair Oaks

WARDSVILLE -- South Callaway fielded better than the Blair Oaks Falcons and Bulldogs No. 8 hitter Avery Foster had a game-high two hits Wednesday at Vivion Field.

That wasn't enough for South Callaway, ranked second in Class 3 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association, to earn a statement victory, as it fell 6-2 at Class 4 No. 10 Blair Oaks.

The Bulldogs recorded two hits and committed no errors, and the Falcons had five hits and two errors.

Blair Oaks (6-2) took the lead for good when it scored the game's first three runs in the bottom of the third. The Falcons' Hayden Lackman grounded an RBI single to third base, giving them the advantage they held the rest of the way.

Foster and Dane Daugherty notched successive RBI for South Callaway (3-5) in the top of the seventh. Foster's RBI came on a base hit to the shortstop, and Daugherty's 0n a 6-3 groundout.

Nolan Laughlin led Blair Oaks at the plate, going 1-1 with a double -- only extra-base hit in the contest -- a game-high three RBI and co-team-high two walks.

Bulldogs starter Ethan Edwards (0-3) took the loss. He went 3⅔ innings and gave up six runs on seven walks and three hits while striking out one.

Zane Halford earned the win for the Falcons. He threw three innings and punched out six, allowing no runs on no hits and two walks.

Blair Oaks swiped four bases, including a game-high three from Jake Hagner. Kolton Adrian and Tucker Jones registered a steal for South Callaway.

"Hats off to Blair Oaks," South Callaway baseball coach Mason Mershon said. "They're a good, fundamentally sound baseball team. We had runners in scoring position every inning but were unable to capitalize on that with key hits."

The Bulldogs have another challenge coming up: They will take on Class 4 No. 7 Southern Boone (6-0) at 5 p.m. Monday at Southern Boone High School in Ashland.
